Adventures

Gavin and Logan are becoming more and more adventurous as each day passes.  Yesterday, Logan climbed over the back of the couch.  There was a little thud when he landed but he was thrilled that he had finally escaped.  They also try to move their play gate and escape to their bedroom multiple times a day.  Occasionally, they manage to succeed and then have a grand time exploring their bedroom.  And when they don't succeed they become very whiny and frustrated.

Their other new activity is fighting over who gets to go down the slid first.  Often it's Logan, who will then stand at the top of the slid with a little smirk on his face.  It's almost like he knows that Gavin is standing behind him pouting and getting more and more upset that he can't go down the slid.  Fights between the two of them have gotten a bit more intense too.  There is much more tackling, which has become a lot more forceful and occasionally someone gets bit, usually Logan.  They also hit harder and Gavin has started to head butt.  I'm amazed that this behavior comes naturally to them and that they haven't learned it from anyone, I guess it's just in boys nature. 

Next Tuesday, Galen goes back to school and we start our crazy life of switching back and forth between school, work and handling the boys.  I'm not looking forward to it since we were a little spoiled this summer with time off, but it will be good to get back into a routine.  Gavin and Logan will also be going to daycare every Wednesday for a few hours.  It's the same place their friend Dom goes and they will be the only three kids their.  I think that they will really enjoy it and I will enjoy being able to clean and do laundry without their help.

August 24th 2012

Our family had a big day on August 24th.  Galen and I got married and Gavin and Logan got baptized.  We had the wedding and baptism in the same little ceremony and it was perfect.  It was very small, just parents, siblings and both sets of my grandparents.  The day really was everything that Galen and I wanted, simple, short, laid back and mostly stress free. The boys did such a great job, Gavin was a little unsure of the water being poured on his head and Logan just hated it.  After, we headed to the pub for a delicious dinner and to hang out.  We all had such a wonderful day and were so glad that our families were able to celebrate with us.

Tubes Are In!!

Logan's surgery was a success and he will hopefully be ear infection free!!  This morning went better than I expected it to.  We had to be there an hour before surgery but he kept himself entertained by throwing blocks and playing with his Scout.  He went back for surgery at 7:30 and we were allowed to walk him to the OR doors, then we kissed him goodbye.  Ten minutes later the doctor came in and said that Logan did great and would be back with us soon.  A few minutes later, the nurses brought him in.  He was very sleepy looking and cuddling his Scout but he was glad to see me.  We had to stick around for about 20 minutes just to make sure he was doing okay.  As soon as we got home he ate a snack and we all took a nap.

The First Night Apart

The title of this post makes it sound like Galen and I are having our first night away from the boys but that's not the case.  We have been lucky enough to have a few nights away.  But this is Logan's first night away from Gavin.  Logan gets his tubes put in tomorrow and we have to be at the hospital at 6:30am.  We decided it was in Gavin's best sleeping interest to spend the night with Grandma and Grandpa.  This way, Gavin will get a full nights sleep (hopefully) and Galen, Logan and I can all nap when we get home.

The thought of them spending the night apart makes me a little sad.  I feel like part of the reason they are so good with people is because they always have each other.  But I know Gavin will be fine and Logan will be too.  Gavin is already with Grandma and Grandpa because we wanted to drop him off before he got too tired.  Logan is playing in the living room and is quite happy he can have any toy he wants.  And I must say having only one baby is like being on vacation.

2am Party

It's roughly 2am at our house and Gavin and Logan have decided it's a perfect time to party.  They actually went to bed at 11, successfully worn out by Uncle Charlie and Papa Pat.  Unfortunately, they woke up and are showing no signs of going back to sleep soon.  Luckily, I work in the morning so Galen wins the sleepless baby lottery.

Right now, each boy has a tennis ball in their hands and are actively teasing Bowser with it.  Logan will occasionally throw the ball for him or let it roll down the slide, which makes Bows fairly happy. Gavin prefers to keep the ball far away from Bowser and says "eh" in a very annoyed tone if Bowser gets too close.  He will even put his arm out to keep Bowser away.  As all of these activities are going  on they keep repeating "ba, ba, ba." (ball). If they get sick of the tennis balls the run to another ball, pick it up and say "ba!".

It's hard to be upset or even annoyed when they get up in the middle of the night because they are so happy.  They just want to explore and figure out the world, or they just need a little late night snack.  Seeing their smiley little faces and hearing them talk and laugh makes the lack of sleep worth it.  Still, I think need to figure out how to bottle some of their energy and use it for myself or sell it.  Until then, I'll keep my fingers crossed that they aren't still awake when I get up for work.

15 Month Stats

Gavin and Logan had their 15 month check up today, which included three shots each.  They did pretty well, and only cried for a minute.  The doctor says they are looking healthy and happy!  Gavin now weighs 20lbs 11oz and is 31.75in.  Logan is 21lbs and 1oz and 32in.

What We've Been Up To

Logan finally had his appointment with the ear, nose and throat doctor.  At this time, the doctor feels that Logan will really benefit from having tubes put in.  So, August 15th will be the big surgery day.  It's supposed to be a very short procedure and there really is no recovery time.  The major challenge will be that Logan can't have anything to eat or drink after midnight the night before.

We have had a very busy week.  Thursday the boys and I went to the Children's Museum and they seemed to enjoy themselves.  A lot of the activities were geared towards older kids but Gavin and Logan liked running around.  Friday night we babysat baby Z, she behaved perfectly!  Logan kept stealing her paci and trying to put it back in her mouth and Gavin kept saying "baby, baby, baby."  Every time they see her, their faces light up.  On Saturday, Galen and the boys went to a wedding while I worked.  They got to meet some of Galen's relatives for the first time.  Sunday, we had a family reunion for Galen's family so the boys spent the majority of the day outside.  They don't mind the grass now and will happily walk or sit in it.  At one point they picked up boccie balls and tried to carry them around.  I was a little nervous about their toes but they didn't drop them at all.  Logan even tried to throw the boccie balls.

Monday and Tuesday they spent with my parents, who came up to help us out with getting the apartment finished up.  They got to go for some long walks and hang out in a really big hotel room.  They also got to eat at Burger King and Wendy's.  Galen and I were able to get so much stuff done without being interrupted by the boys.
