Struggling To Sleep

Luckily, this is not going to be a post about over tired, cranky kids who refuse to go to bed, it's actually almost the opposite.  For the past three nights we have had super chatty, giggly, hyper little boys.  They have followed the same bedtime routine that we have been doing for the past few months and were in bed by 9:00.  As Galen and I were sitting in the living room we could hear little voices saying "mama? dada?" We could hear giggling and occasionally the boys would moo back and forth. I have to admit that they sounded really cute and nights like this make me want to set up a video camera in their room.

Around 10:00 their tone changed, they started yelling and crying.  So, in we went to change diapers, fill up water bottles and tuck them back in.  Logan immediately started jumping up and down on his mattress and then took off his pajama pants.  Gavin grinned and said "no no" when we told him it was time to go to bed.  After we put them back down, they continued to chat and then around 10:45 the angry yells started again.  So back in I went, this time I was greeted by a large pile of pillows, blankets and stuffed animals that had been piled on the floor.  The only things that remained in the cribs were Gavin and Logan.  After picking up way too many stuffed animals, eating a little yogurt and getting tucked in, they reluctantly laid back down.

And the fun didn't end there.  Galen and I were really hopeful after it was quiet for twenty minutes but then we heard crying.  This time, I was surprised to find a much smaller pile of animals and blankets on the floor.  Logan was standing in his empty crib and Gavin was no where to be found. I had a slight moment of panic until I realized that Gavin's crib was unusually full.  He had fallen asleep, on his stomach, and then his loving brother decided to throw one Mickey Mouse, one Jingle, one Scout, and one water bottle on top of him.  Gavin was pretty much buried under animals and Logan was laughing.  I ended up moving Logan's pillow to the other end of his crib and giving him all of the animals back that he had thrown on his brother.  The good news is that he has finally fallen asleep and we haven't heard a noise from either of them.

It Goes Too Fast

Some times I get worried that I'm not going to remember all of the little things that Gavin and Logan do.  I don't want to look back in five years and have no memories of the stuff that they do on a daily basis.  For example, today Logan ran around in his snow boots with no clothes and no diaper on, with the biggest grin on his face.  Or how Gavin threw a tantrum today because he didn't want to come inside.  And the way that their faces lit up when I brought balloons home.  They were so excited and ran around with them all night.  They even had to have the balloons sit by their highchairs while they ate dinner.

I know that it's next to impossible to remember every little thing or even close to every little thing but it's a good reminder to myself to take more pictures, blog more and savor every moment with them.  I always want to remember the way that they hide behind their hands and get big grins when we say "where's Gavin? where's Logan?"  And how excited and giggly they get when they take their hands away and you find them.  And maybe all of these little memories will be good reminders when they are teenagers and talking back to me.

First Hair Cuts!!

Tonight, Gavin and Logan got their hair cut for the first time!  Gavin's hair in the back (aka his wisps) was so long that it almost touched his neck.  He kind of had a baby mullet.  Aunt Sarah came over to do the first hair cut and Gavin did such a great job.  He stood in the kitchen and ate fruit snacks while his hair was getting cut.  Sarah also cut the top and the sides to even things out.  Logan was less than thrilled to be getting his hair cut but surprisingly stood still.  When Sarah would comb his hair or start cutting he would push her hands away.  He also kept moving his head around, I think the comb was tickling him. Logan really didn't need a hair cut, his wisps behind his ears were getting a little long, but we figured since Sarah was already there it should be done.

Their new hair cuts look great!  I can't believe how grown up they look.  Now, they look like little boys instead of babies.  Bittersweet, time goes by way too fast!!

Mid January Update

January has kept us busy, busy!  We went on a five day vacation with Galen's family.  It was great to spend time with everyone but Gavin and Logan spent the whole time being sick.  They both had colds while we were there and they didn't really want to sleep since we were in a strange place.  We had to drive around every day at nap time so they could fall asleep in the car.

Despite being sick, we managed to do some fun activities.  We spent an evening at the mall, had dinner at the Rain Forrest Cafe, which the boys loved because they could run around.  They like to look at all of the fish and different animals.  The highlight of the night was probably the stop at the Disney Store where they got to see multiple Mickeys and even buy some little Mickey Mouse figurines.  We also were able to go stay at my parents for a night, visit with Papa and Gran and go out to lunch with Sami.  It was great that we were so close so we could visit people.

Gavin and Logan's vocabulary has once again expanded in the past few weeks.  They never fail to amaze me and seem to say new words every day.  Gavin still talks a bit more than Logan and his new words are, yellow, knee, up, off, coat, and plate.  Logan's new words are no no (most frequently said to Bowser, while shaking his finger at him) and TV.  Both of them are now saying poop, and if Bowser has an accident on the carpet they get excited, point and say poop.  Yay for boys and their obsession with gross things.

Happy New Year!

2013 already?  What happened to 2012?  It went by way too fast, I didn't even get to sneak in the last blog post that I had promised myself that I would write.  New Year's Resolution is to get better at updating the blog.

I'm sad to say that we have not started the New Year off on a good note.  Gavin has an ear infection, along with a nice temp of 103.  He gets antibiotics for five days and a follow up visit with his doctor to discus an ENT referral for tubes.  Since we've been down this road once already with Logan, I'm okay with it.  I know what will happen and what the doctor is going to say, and honestly I'll probably push a little for the ENT consult.  I don't really want to sit around and wait for him to get a few more ear infections, especially since he is allergic to amoxacillian and that limits the antibiotics he can be on.

Other than the ear infection, Gavin is doing great.  I'm amazed at his vocabulary and the things that he knows.  Today he went over to a blankets, started pointed at stars and saying "star, star, star."  He also loves to look at his Mickey Mouse books and point out Mickey (Mic), Minnie (Min), Pluto, Daisy (Dais) and Donald.  Gavin is constantly trying to figure out the way that things work and yesterday he figured out how to pour water from his sippy cup into the cups that go with their kitchen set.

Logan is also doing great, he seems to always be more hyper than Gavin.  Today he figured out how to take off his diaper and climb half way up the baby gate that separates our living room and kitchen.  There is never a dull moment when he is around and he loves to keep us on our toes.  Logan is also obsessed with stealing whatever toy that Gavin has, even if we have two of them.  Luckily, Gavin is content with sharing and frequently swapping toys with Logan to avoid a major meltdown.

Gavin and Logan had a great Christmas.  We had Christmas with the four of us on December 20th and it was a perfect day.  I love watching Gavin and Logan's facial expressions and excitement that the day brings.  Santa brought them a Step 2 Kitchen and they are in love.  When they woke up and saw it they went running for it and didn't even pay attention to any of their other presents for quite some time.  They love to pretend to cook, stir, drink from the cups and feed us (and Bowser) with the plastic forks and spoons.  They also got a Little People farm set, which came with one of their favorite animals, a cow.  Occasionally we will put them down for a nap and hear mooing noises coming from their room.  They also got some big trucks and a Little People ramp that they love to watch the cars drive down.

Unfortunately, the day that we did Christmas, Galen had a final in the afternoon so while he went to take a test, the boys and I went to see Santa.  I'm not entirely sure what I was thinking bringing two nineteen month olds to see Santa by myself, but it went better than expected.  Gavin and Logan wore their Christmas sweaters and brought their stuffed Santas with them.  While we were waiting in line they seemed content with Santa, they would smile and wave at him.  When it was our turn, I took Logan out of the stroller and he casually strolled over to Santa, Gavin stayed closer to me.  As soon as I put Logan on Santa's lap, his attitude changed and he started crying.  I quickly plopped Gavin on Santa's lap and got out of the way of the photographer.  Gavin sat nicely with a concerned look on his face while Logan screamed away.  Of course as soon as I picked both of them up, they were happy as can be and started smiling and waving at Santa.  Oh well, at least we got a good picture of them.

On Saturday the 22nd we headed down to my parent's house with a pit stop to pick up Uncle Jake on the way.  He even sat in the backseat between the boys and entertained them for the rest of the drive which was awesome.  We hung out at my parent's house until Christmas Day night and it was so much fun.  I love being home with all of my siblings for Christmas, it reminds me of being young again.  Plus there is always delicious food and people to help out with Gavin and Logan.  Galen and I were a little nervous about the boys sleeping in pack n plays while we were there but they did great!  They slept so well that I don't even remember if they woke up at all at night.  Gavin and Logan also got to try sledding for the first time!  I think they liked it?  I was napping while they went and didn't really hear a full report.

Gavin and Logan were spoiled by everyone at Christmas.  My parents got them a shopping cart, which they love to push Bowser around in.  Logan pushes him around as aggressively as possible and Gavin is very gentle and just rocks him back and forth.  They also got a Mega Blocks table, Logan has decided it makes a better chair, a bunch of dishes for their kitchen, big plush Mickey Mouses from Uncle Charlie, Mickey books from Auntie Sami and books from Uncle Jake.

We had Christmas with Galen's family on the 27th and once again the boys were spoiled.  They got DVD players for the car, which will be a life savor for long trips, little animals, socks, pajamas and some cars.  Everyone who got gifts for the boys picked perfect gifts.  The boys had a fun time hanging out with baby Z and trying to open her Christmas presents for her.

I think that's all I've got for now, especially since I can hear someone saying "mama, mama, mama?" and both boys went to bed two hours ago.  Fingers crossed that it's an easy fix and I can go to bed soon.
