Wordless Wednesday

On Wednesdays all over the internet, bloggers post a photograph with no words to explain it on their blog. Hence the ‘wordless’ title. The idea is that the photo itself says so much that it doesn’t need any description.

I'm going to make an attempt every week but we will see how it goes.  This week's wordless Wednesday photo is a little early.  Enjoy.

A Little Update

I've got two sleeping little boys right now.  They have their heads turned in the same direction and Gavin has his hand resting on top of Logan's.  They are so sweet.  Sometimes I find myself watching them while they sleep, they always look so peaceful.  I love the little facial expressions that appear on their faces as they sleep.  Occasionally it's a smile other times their bottom lips stick out like they are pouting.

Gavin and Logan are both doing a really good job of holding their heads up.  They actually are interested in their play mat now and kick their legs and move their arms.  Today Logan stared at himself in the play mat mirror for a good twenty minutes.  Both of them are so much more alert and take interest in lights, people, toys and Bowser.  It's amazing the changes they have made and the progress they have made in just three short months of life.

Their individual personalities are starting to appear more and more.  Gavin is our laid back baby who is perfectly content to sit in a bouncy seat or in a swing.  He very rarely cries and sleeps eight to ten hours a night.  Logan likes to be held, but will tolerate the bouncy seat.  He tends to be more fussy and still wakes up after about six hours at night to eat.  We certainly can't complain though, both Gavin and Logan are such good babies.  Their fussy days are nothing compared to some babies I've heard about.  Their personalities have certainly made this whole twin thing a little easier than we expected it to be.

A Day In The Life Of Twins

9:00 am- Gavin wakes up after a ten hour stretch of sleep to eat.
9:30am- Logan wakes up and also wants to eat.  I make another bottle, grab a diet Coke and get ready to feed two babies.
9:35am- I burp Logan while Gavin screams because he is still hungry and no longer being fed.
9:36am-Gavin's turn to burp while Logan screams.  I really need to learn how to burp one while still feeding the other.
10:00am-Both babies fall asleep mid bottle, I take the opportunity to quickly clean up.
10:05am-Logan wakes up screaming for food.
10:10am-Gavin wakes up wanting the rest of his bottle.
10:20am- Both boys finish eating and have playtime.
11:00am- I start to smell something funny.
11:01am-I start to change Gavin's diaper at the moment our realtor calls.  Of course his diaper is poopy.
11:03am- I'm still on the phone and decide to change Logan's diaper too.
11:03am- Poopy diaper again.  Really?  My luck sucks today.  And I was still on the phone with the realtor, who asks if this is a bad time.  A bad time?  No, there is no good time to make phone calls when you have two babies.
11:10am-Bowser is now running around like a mad person because I mistakenly asked the babies if they wanted to go in the car.
11:40am-Bowser is still running around and we wake up Galen so we can do a drive by of the house I want.
11:47am-Gavin poops again, luckily Galen takes this one.
12:00pm- Both babies are in clean clothes and in their carseats, ready for our adventure.  And yes, Bowser is still running around.
1:00pm-We arrive home with sleeping babies.
1:30pm-Gavin wakes up screaming.  I'm pretty sure that they think we don't ever feed them.
2:00pm-Logan wakes up screaming because he is hungry.
2:00-3:00pm-The babies spend the hour being crabby and hungry.
3:30pm-Playtime on the play mat, it actually lasted about 45 min. and was full of smiles.
4:15-Prop the babies on the couch, they like to sit up and look around the room.
4:30pm-They both eat.
5:00pm-Gavin eats again.
5:15pm-And Gavin eats again.
5:45pm-Galen leaves for work and all hell breaks loose.
6:00pm-Two screaming babies+one dog who is running and barking=Crazy Kourtney
6:05pm-Feed both babies.
6:12pm-Logan's mad because Gavin is burping.
6:13pm-Gavin's mad because Logan is burping.
6:30pm-Babies are on the couch looking at the world.
6:40pm-Pick up Gavin because he is fussing.
6:43pm-I discover a large wet spot on my leg.
6:44pm-I discover a large wet spot on the couch right where Gavin was sitting.
6:44pm-Change the most wet diaper ever know to man.
6:45pm- Clean the couch cushion and discover two million crumbs.
6:46pm- I vacuum the couch.
7:00pm-Feed both babies.
7:15pm-Both babies are screaming.  So I decide on bath time since that usually calms them down.
7:17pm-Logan screams and screams while I'm getting bath stuff set up.
7:18pm- I'm realizing that setting up for their baths would go so much faster if I wasn't holding a crying baby.
7:19pm- Logan decides to be happy, but don't worry, Gavin takes his place as the upset baby.
7:30pm- Logan is content sitting in his highchair while Gavin has his bath.
7:45pm- Gavin's bath is successful, Logan didn't cry.  And now we switch.
7:47pm- Logan's diaper has also leaked because I forgot to change him the last time I changed Gavin.  Ugh, so not my day today.
7:50pm- Gavin's in the highchair, Logan's in the tub.  Gavin's crying.
7:58pm- Logan's bath is done, Gavin is still screaming.
8:15pm- Babies are in bouncy seats.  My left foot is on Logan's bouncy seat and my right is on Gavin's.
9:36pm- My feet are still on the bouncy seats, if I stop bouncing, they cry.
9:37pm- I've decided that I'm not able move and I really wish Galen was home to bring me a Diet Coke.

Good Nights

Wednesday August 10th was a wonderful night at our house.  Gavin and Logan slept for seven and a half hours.  Yes, that's right BOTH babies slept for that long!!  It happened to be a one night thing, but I'll take it for now and it's made us realize that there is hope for Logan to sleep longer.  Since Wednesday they have gotten back to their normal routine, Gavin sleeping about eight hours and Logan more like six.

I'm starting to wonder if their sleep is being interrupted by each other.  We put them on different ends of the crib but they move during the night.  Gavin has managed to flip 90 degrees a few nights now.  This morning I woke up to Logan crying and went to pick him up, I found Gavin's head by Logan's feet.  Of course Logan was kicking away, but Gavin continued to sleep peacefully.  I know they will eventually have to be separated but they are too cute together.

Last night the boys stayed home with Galen while I went to work.  The ten hour shift was a bit of a struggle for me.  I really missed the boys.  I found myself constantly wondering what they were doing, if they were smiling, if they were happy and if they were being good for Galen.  But most of all, I missed putting them to bed.   They were fast asleep when I got home and I couldn't bring myself to wake them up because they looked so peaceful.

Today I'm making up for being away from the house last night.  Galen is at work, so Gavin, Logan and I have spent the day in our PJ's being lazy.  They are sleeping in their swings now, exhausted from playing and watching horrible Lifetime movies.  Nothing has been accomplished today except for loving my babies and I'm perfectly okay with that.

Sleep is wonderful.

Gavin has suddenly turned into the best little sleeper.  He went eight hours two nights in a row and nine last night!  Is it wrong that I suddenly have a favorite child?  Just kidding.  Logan struggles to make it more than six hours at night, I'm not complaining about that but lately he has become a little stinker.  He will wake up after three hours and cry like he is hungry.  If we feed him he makes it another three to four hours.  But if we put him in bed with us he makes it six.  Hmmm, seems like he likes our bed better than his own.

The amount of smiles we are getting from both boys has dramatically increased again in the past few days.  They are very happy little guys.  Sometimes when they are eating, they will stop, and give a huge smile, while the bottle is still in their mouth.  I really like it when I can make them smile, it makes me smile, which makes them smile again.  And they get really big smiles when I tell Bowser "no."

On Saturday, my parents came up to babysit while Galen and I worked.  I hope they were well behaved, we were told they were.  I was only at work for six hours, but I missed them a ton.  I'm really dreading going back to work in September, it will be tough.  But, I think it will help knowing that Galen is home with them instead of having them in daycare.

Tomorrow the boys have their three month pictures, a week earlier than the three month mark.  It's crazy how fast the time has gone since they were born.  We went over to our friend's house on Sunday to see their week old little girl.  She weighs two pounds more than Logan did when he was born and it just didn't seem real that he was that small.  Four pounds and twelve ounces is so tiny and light.  But gosh, they were (and still are) so adorable.

As much as I miss them being tiny, I'm excited for them to keep growing.  It's very bittersweet.  Each day brings new things that they do and a new level of fun.  I'm excited to watch them achieve more milestones like rolling over and crawling.  And Logan sleeping longer at night.  I'm a little nervous about the walking and running stage, I feel like they are only going to go opposite directions.  And I get excited thinking about their first holidays, don't judge but I've already bought all of their Christmas presents.
