Sweet Summer Time

After a week of rain and 50 degree temperatures, summer has finally hit Duluth.  We were able to go for a a few walks and the boys got to experience Canal Park for the first time.  They didn't seem too interested since they slept the whole time.  We also got Gavin on the hammock with Galen for the first time and the boys enjoyed sitting outside in their bouncy seats.  The best part of the warm weather...cute summer outfits.  I'm so excited that we don't have to keep them in a bunch of layers just to keep them warm.  They really seem to be enjoying the freedom that onsies bring.

The boys have been growing like crazy.  Logan has outgrown preemie clothes and actually fits into newborn clothes!  Gavin is on his way to out growing his newborn clothes.  Last week we got the okay to take them off of their 22 calorie preemie formula and switch to regular formula.  I'm impressed with how well the 22 calorie stuff worked.  They now have cute chubby cheeks and have recently started struggling with baby acne and receding hair lines.

At my last doctor appointment the doctor confirmed that they are in fact fraternal.  We suspected this all along but it was nice to have the doctor confirm.  We are starting to notice more differences in them.  Gavin's face is longer and Logan's is wider.  Gavin's nose is a little bigger.  Logan has my feet and Gavin has Galen's.  It's actually easier now to go back and look at pictures from the day they were born and tell them apart.  Had I been smart, I would have brought different colored hats for the nurses to put on them right after they were born.

In the past two weeks the boys have become louder.  Logan grunts constantly and makes loud sucking noises when he has his paci in his mouth.  He still has a cute little whimper that he only does when he is getting his diaper changed.  Gavin also grunts and has developed a much louder cry.  He isn't afraid to let us know when it is time for him to eat.  Both boys are starting to hold their heads up for much longer periods of time and really like to show off how long they can go.  We've also decided that Gavin will be rolling over any day now, he managed to make it from his back to his side today.

We were able to have some wonderful visitors in the past two weeks.  Jake and Nicole came up for a last visit before he took off to San Francisco.  It's hard to believe that we won't see him for a while, but we are so proud of him.  Plus it gives us a great excuse to go visit California.  Gran and Papa also came up to meet the boys for the first time.  It was so cool to see them with their first great grandchildren.  I think they really enjoyed the boys.

Boys Oh Boys

Someone should have warned us about the peeing abilities of boys.  I don't even have words to describe my shock or my new found hatred of doing four loads of laundry a day.  Yes, four loads of baby laundry, and given the size of their little clothes, I'm not sure how that is possible.  In the past few days Gavin has also managed to pee on my nice, still new comforter, which of course can only be dry cleaned.  And I should mention that he wasn't on the comforter when he peed, he was on the changing table...still trying to figure out how that works.  He also managed to pee on his face (yes, his own face) yesterday when Grandma Maxim was changing his diaper.

I've asked Google for answers, read countless blogs and advice from parents of boys, but nothing seems to stop these boys from peeing all over the place.  We even put paper towels, clean diapers, wipes, burp clothes, small tarps etc over them when we are changing them but the second we remove it, all hope is lost.  I have made it my new goal to find a way to make it a whole day without them peeing on an outfit (or their face) but I feel like it's a lost cause until they are about six.

Today I had my four week check up and the doctor was very pleased with how I'm doing.  He also did the same speech that he did when I left the hospital about how I was so lucky to make it to 35weeks and 5days with these little guys.  When he first saw me there was no way he thought I would make it that long.  And then today he adds in, "You got lucky, you shouldn't have made it this far and your babies shouldn't have been this healthy.  You did great and gave the babies the best start to life possible."  Okay, bring on the massive tears from me.

We did get lucky.  We got lucky that my Doctor listened to me when I told him I thought something was wrong.  We got lucky that he decided to deliver that day.  We got lucky that they only had to be in the hospital for six days.  I was mentally prepared for them to have a much longer hospital stay, especially since the night they were born they kept their doctor up all night because he was so worried about them.

I'm still amazed that Gavin and Logan are here and four weeks old.  I can't get over how cute they are and I am just so in love with them, it's a wonderful feeling.  It's been a crazy four weeks but I wouldn't change anything, well except for maybe the 10 day hospital stay.  I can honestly say that I have loved every moment of it, even the lack of sleep, the late night feedings and all of the excessive peeing.

Almost "real" baby size!

The boys had a doctor visit on Wednesday and they are each a pound over their birth weights!  The three hour feeding schedule and 22 calorie formula is paying off.  This puts Gavin on the low end of newborn weights and Logan still has a few ounces to go before he hits that mark.  I'm confident that he will catch up to his big brother in no time.

The boys are becoming more alert.  They tend to stay awake longer after their night feedings, and go right back to sleep after the morning feedings.  Luckily they are following in our footsteps.  I don't think I could handle alert babies at 7am.  Galen and I have come up with a pretty good feeding schedule, he takes one or two feedings during the night so I can sleep and then I take one or two in the morning so he can sleep.  We are hoping they continue to be easy babies so we can keep getting decent sleep.

We made our first visit to the Pub today so we could show off the boys, and grab some food.  Everyone commented on how cute they are.  (It never gets old hearing that.)  Auntie Adrie quickly stole Logan and had him behind the bar in no time.  I guess he should get aquainted with his future work place.  We couldn't let Gavin miss out on the behind the bar action so I brought him back there for a bit.  Galen and I made sure to leave before it got busy, we didn't want to risk being put to work.
Here are some pictures from the past week.  Enjoy!
