Tonight, just five days shy of 11 months old, Rylynn took her first unassisted steps. We had her do it a few different times just to make sure she had it down, and she's taking at least five steps every time she does it. The look on her face was priceless,it was a look of determination, pride and confidence. When she would fall, she would immediately start laughing.
First steps are so exciting, but tonight I'm finding them to be bittersweet. To me, first steps mean the end of a baby and the start of a toddler. It means that soon the infant car seat will disappear from it's spot on the living room floor, baby bottles will get packed up, I'll stop finding random pacis in my purse. It means that I'll have three toddlers who are fiercely independent. I'm not quite sure I'm ready for all of that. I want my baby to stay my baby just a little longer.
