A Few Firsts

What a fun few days it's been! On Thursday, Rylynn rolled from front to back for the first time!  It wasn't even a one time thing, she has done it every day since then, sometimes even multiple times.  Today she had her toenails painted for the first time.  I figured Seth and Sarah's upcoming wedding was a good excuse for a baby pedicure.  I painted them while she was sleeping and it was more difficult than I anticipated. Her toenails are tiny!

Gavin and Logan had their first haircuts in a salon today.  Normally, Sarah cuts their hair but we took them to our friend DeAnna.  When she asked who wanted to go first, each boy said the other ones name.  Gavin ended up going first and he did a great job.  He sat still for the most part and only request to get down a few times.  Logan shocked us and sat completely still, I think he liked that he could watch what was going on in the mirror.

After their haircuts they got first haircut certificates that have some of their hair in them.  It's a cool souvenir for their baby boxes.  We finished off the morning with lunch at the pub.  The boys were very excited about their fries and nuggets.

Last Tuesday, we took Gavin and Logan for an overnight trip to the waterpark.  We weren't able to go on vacation this summer but I thought we all deserved a night away.  Rylynn stayed with Galen's parents for the night.  When we checked into the hotel, the boys were so excited!  Our room had a deck that over looked the highway and the lake so they were pretty excited about the cars and trucks that would drive by.  They also got to see the train go by.

When we first went to the pool, the boys were a little unsure about the water.  This was the first time that they had really been swimming.  They held on very tightly to us when we were in the pool.  As soon as they found some balls and a basketball hoop they warmed up a bit.  We swam for about a half hour before heading back to the room for pizza and juice boxes.

When we went back to the pool the second time they were much more willing to get in the pool.  We walked around in the kiddie pool, watched the bucket over the kiddie pool "dump it" multiple times.  And then we spent a lot of time floating down the lazy river.  Gavin and Logan even got to the point where they would go under the waterfalls in the river.  They had such a fun time pointing out the mountains, turtles and coconuts as we floated around.

The evening also included a trip to the arcade where they tried unsuccessfully to at skeeball.  Galen and I really should have known that they would just try to throw the balls.  They also played wack a mole and got to get a few little plastic animals with all of their tickets.  We also spent some time outside on the swings.  Immediately they knew what to do on the swings, how to sit and how to hold on with both hands.  I'm pretty sure we owe this to Beth since they go to the park with her every Wednesday.  And they got to eat marshmallows for the first time.

We ended our night with popcorn and an episode of Mickey.  Bedtime was much easier than we expected it to be.  I'm sure it helped that they were so tired from swimming.  But they snuggled up in bed and fell asleep pretty quickly.  I only had to tell Logan to lay down twice. After they went to bed, Galen and I were able to sit outside on the deck and relax a bit.

The next morning, we had continental breakfast and let the boys pick out their own stuff.  We ended up with so much food.  They wanted yogurt, doughnuts, muffins, juice and fruit loops, which they kept calling Cheerios.  Gavin was so excited that they were very colorful.  Of course they took about two bites of everything that we got them.  We managed to sneak in a swim before we had to check out.

It really was a nice little stay and we will definitely be going back in the fall.  I really liked the opportunity to have some time with just Gavin and Logan, but we did miss Rylynn a lot.  When we asked the boys where she was, they would say "gone" and try to find her.
